American country pop band, Rascal Flatts is composed of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney who once used to play for a handful of people in a club in Nashville's Printers Alley.
With the release of 'I'm Movin' On,' their star rose dramatically and reached dizzying heights. They hit the road hard, gaining thousands of new fans. The Flatts later played the Grand Ole Opry, appeared on the soundtrack of We Were Soldiers, and recorded 'Walk The Llama Llama,' a song penned by Sting for The Emperor's New Groove soundtrack. The subjects of two one-hour live television concerts were given the 2001 CMA Horizon Award and ACM's New Vocal Group of the Year.
The hit songs and relentless work ethic drove them inexorably toward platinum status and a host of awards and milestones. Their debut CD was one of only three million-selling debuts in half a decade, and it spawned four top-ten singles.
Rascal Flatts music achieved notoriety in 2003 with their music video for the single 'I Melt' starring band member Joe Don Rooney and model Christina Auria. It contained brief nudity and raised quite a hue and cry that led to its editing. The inappropriate areas were blurred but the video is still not aired on CMT Canada.
They later toured with Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney, headlined their own tours: CMT 'Most Wanted Live Tour,' 2003 'I Melt' and 2004 & 2005's 'Here's To You Tour.'
2005 became a milestone year for the Flatts as they picked up their first three Grammy nominations and 'Bless The Broken Road' received the Grammy for Country Song of the Year. The spent ten weeks at #1 on the radio singles charts and became the most played artist on country radio also in 2005. Their concert album 'Rascal Flatts Live' released on February 22nd, 2005. Rascal Flatts ended the year with the best selling country album of the year for 'Feels Like Today.'
Recorded largely in the spring and summer of 2005, the album 'Me And My Gang' is another sonic step forward for them. It certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA for sales of over 4 million units, after 10 months on the charts. The 2006's 'Me And My Gang Tour' became the band's highest attended tour ever with over One Million fans in 74 cities.
Rascal Flatts band are the 2006 CMA, ACM and CMT Vocal Group of the Year.
