Renowned American bluegrass-country singer and fiddle player, Alison Krauss was born on July 23, 1971 in Decatur, Illinois. She started out a very young age just because her mother was always on a lookout to find new and interesting stuff for her to do. At thirteen she won the Walnut Valley Festival Fiddle Championship, and the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America named her the Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest

From the age of twelve, Alison Krauss had been performing with bassist and songwriter, John Pennell in a band called ‘Silver Rail’ and he later formed Union Station which she joined on invitation. Pennell wrote some of her earlier popular work including ‘Every Time You Say Goodbye.’ Alison Krauss made her recording debut on her brother Viktor's independent album, Different Strokes. Alison Krauss signed up with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first album ‘Too Late to Cry’ at sixteen in 1987 with Union Station as her backup band.

Alison Krauss’s first group album with the band, Alison Krauss & Union Station (AKUS) came in 1989 and was named ‘Two Highways.’ It had many traditional bluegrass numbers along with a bluegrass interpretation of The Allman Brothers' ‘Midnight Rider.’ Alison Krauss music had to alternate between releasing a solo album and an album with Union Station as her contract with Rounder required her to do that. So, it was a solo album ‘I've Got That Old Feeling’ in 1990 and it peaked in the top seventy-five on the country chart.

‘Every time You Say Goodbye’ was her second Union Station album that released in 1992 and won her a second Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album of the year. In 1993 at the age of 21, Alison Krauss joined the Grand Ole Opry and collaborated on a project with the Cox Family in 1994. It was a bluegrass album called ‘I Know Who Holds Tomorrow’.

‘New Favorite’ was the next album that released on August 14, 2001 and won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album, with the single ‘The Lucky One’ winning a Grammy as well. The success of New Favorite was followed up by the double platinum double album Live in 2002 and a release of a DVD of the same live performance in 2003. Both the album and the DVD were recorded during a performance at The Louisville Palace.

Alison Krauss concert has made multiple guest appearances on other records with lead vocals, harmony vocals, or fiddle playing. Her soundtrack performances include Grammy-winning ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ in 2000. She and co-vocalist Dan Tyminski contributed multiple tracks to the soundtrack, including ‘I'll Fly Away’ (with Gillian Welch), ‘Down in the River to Pray’ and ‘I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow.’ In the film, Tyminski's vocals on Man of Constant Sorrow became the singing voice of George Clooney. As she was nine months pregnant at the time, she did not appear in the movie.

The Cold Mountain soundtrack led to her performance at the 2004 Academy Awards. Alison Krauss has thus far released more than ten albums and also Alison Krauss live performed, helped to bring up a new interest in bluegrass music in the United States and won 20 Grammy Awards in the process.
