Canadian vocalist, Celine Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968 to a catholic family in the small town of Charlemagne, Quebec.
Her mother encouraged her singing voice and by the age of five she was performing for anyone who would listen. It was her mother who brought her to agent/manager Rene Angelil in 1980 and as Celines voice wooed him, he mortgaged his home to help finance her career.
Her first French record La Voix du bon Dieu (The Voice of God) came out in 1981 and made her an instant star in Quebec.
Celine Dion won the gold medal at the Tokyo World Song Festival in 1982 and she produced the largely successful album Incognito in 1987.Celine Dion also won the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest singing Ne partez pas sans moi and received a large boost to her career in Europe.
Unison (1990) was Celines first English-language album that expanded her international recognition with the breakthrough single Where Does My Heart Beat Now.
She showcased her talents as a songwriter by co-writing Don't Save It All for Christmas Day for the 1998 Christmas album, These Are Special Times and Treat Her Like a Lady on her Let's Talk About Love album, 1997.
Celine Dion declared her love for her manager, Rene Angelil and married him in 1994. The couple also has a son Rene-Charles Angelil(born January 2001).
Celine's work has been used in a number of films like Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Up Close and Personal (Because You Loved Me) Sleepless in Seattle (cover of Nat King Cole's When I Fall in Love) and Titanic (James Horner and Will Jennings's song My Heart Will Go On) that made her the top-grossing star of the music world, with more than 50 million records sold.
Dion has also performed The Prayer for the 1998 animated film Quest for Camelot, Then You Look at Me from Bicentennial Man I'm Alive in the second Stuart Little motion picture and recorded the title track for the Anglo-French-Canadian movie Nouvelle-France titled Ma Nouvelle-France.
Celine Doin has participated in tribute albums, such as Tapestry Revisited (Carole King songs), In My Life (Beatles songs in tribute to producer George Martin) and a 1997 double-CD set commemorating Diana, Princess of Wales. In 1996 at the Olympics, Celine Dion performed the theme song, "The Power of the Dream".
Dion began her two-year hiatus from the music industry in 2000 for the birth of her baby and for her show A New Day... Live in Las Vegas.
In 2002 she returned with a new album A New Day Has Come that became the highest selling album of the year in the first week.
Dion was everywhere in 2003 as her show opened in Las Vegas, her album One Heart and her own perfume line were released. She sang Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered on the soundtrack to Mona Lisa Smile. Her French album 1 fille & 4 types released in October 2003.
Celine Dion did the promo song for the new Air Canada ad campaign. Dions first concept album Miracle was done with photographer Anne Geddes and is centered on babies.
Dion's three-year engagement to play five nights a week at the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada started in 2003 and has been extended to 2007.
