Musical ensemble, Celtic Woman features the very special talents of four Irish female vocalists, a New Zealandler and a very exciting fiddle player. The vocalists are Chloe Agnew, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha and Hayley Westenra, and the violinist is Mairead Nesbitt. Along with Composer & Musical Director, David Downes, they have managed to create a wonderful musical experience.
Celtic Woman portrays the unique voices and styles of each of the girls as soloists as well as fantastic ensemble numbers and the group's repertoire ranges from traditional Celtic tunes to modern songs.
As Celtic Women music's popularity outside of Ireland and Europe was set by artists Enya and Clannad, along with stage shows Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, Celtic Woman has been referred to as 'Riverdance for the voice'.
The group has released three albums till date. The first named 'Celtic Woman' was filmed on 15 September 2004 for PBS Television at The Helix, Dublin, Ireland in front of a sell-out audience. PBS did extensive publicity throughout 2005 and the album reached #1 on Billboard's World Music chart within weeks of the group's eponymous debut. It finally broke a long-standing record on 22 July 2006 by staying at #1 for 68 weeks and held that position for 81 weeks total.
'Celtic Women concerts : A Christmas Celebration' was the second album that released on 19 October 2006 and pushed the first one to the #2 spot on the World Music chart.
Celtic Woman concert performed at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland, on 23 August and 24 August 2006 while preparing for their third album, Celtic Woman: A New Journey. PBS aired the show during December 2006 and the studio album was released on 30 January 2007. It hit the Billboard 200 at #4 and the Billboard World Music chart at #1 bumping the previous two releases down a spot and securing the top three positions on that chart for the group.
The Celtic Woman music have an unforgettable collection of contemporary hits, ('Beyond the Sea,' 'The Prayer,' 'Scarborough Fair,' 'Over the Rainbow'), classical favorites ('Lascia Ch'io Pianga,' 'Vivaldi's Rain'), and Irish standards ('Dulaman,' 'At the Ceili,' 'Caledonia,' 'Mo Ghile Mear').
They have also undertaken a number of world tours and have been wooing U.S. audiences since their March 2005 debut. Their self-titled debut CD and DVD have been certified platinum in the US. Celtic Woman had sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall, Carnagie Hall, Boston's Opera House and the Greek Theatre in LA. They have appeared on The Today Show, Live with Regis & Kelly, The Megan Mullaly show and on Brian Boitano's Skating Spectacular that aired on NBC on New Year's Day 2007.
The Chairman and CEO of Celtic Woman concert, Dave Kavanagh has worked hard with EMI to develop Celtic Women into an International success. Their debut CD has gone platinum in South Africa and A Christmas Celebration has been certified gold. The DVD has been certified gold in Australia and the CD has been certified gold in Japan.
