Throughout the mid-'70s, John's concerts were enormously popular, as were his singles and albums. He continued recording and performing at a rapid pace until 1976. The following year, John cut his performance schedule drastically, announcing that he was retiring from live performances. John began recording only one album a year. It was the time when his sound set him apart from most others by being piano-based in a rock 'n' roll world.
The other early characteristic was a set of dynamic string arrangements by Paul Buckmaster. Teemed up with Taupin's often cryptic but with emotionally resonant lyrics the results were unique in the history of music. Sixty Years On, Burn Down the Mission, Take Me to the Pilot, Levon, Madman Across the Water, and Tiny Dancer were their combined efforts reflecting this particular style.
In 1994, John was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He entered into a civil partnership with David Furnish as a champion for LGBT social movements in 2005. More recently on April 9, 2008, he held a concert for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and raised about $2.5 million.
He is certainly a prolific figure in music industry.
