James Taylor
Known for singing sensitive and gentle songs, James Vernon Taylor is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was born on March 12, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Carrboro, North Carolina. Taylor embarked on his music career in the mid-1960s, but he found his audience in the early 1970s. James Taylor was part of a wave of singer-songwriters of the age that also included Joni Mitchell, Tom Rush, Cat Stevens, Carole King, John Denver, Jim Croce, Don McLean, Gordon Lightfoot, and Jackson Browne. Taylor was later married to Carly Simon who also happened to be a singer-songwriter.
James Taylor grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He has sold around 40 million albums over the course of his career. Taylor started off his career back in 1968. Taylor had retained a large audience well into the 1990s and early 2000s, when some of his best-selling and most-awarded albums were produced. He moved on to Columbia Records and released a string of such critically praised and commercially successful albums as JT, his 1977 double-platinum debut. In 1998, Taylor's album 'Hourglass' garnered him first Grammy Award for Best Pop Album. 'October Road' in 2002 was another Grammy winner and enjoyed platinum sales.
