Originally from Connecticut, John Clayton Mayer, born on October 16, 1977, is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist.
John Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of nineteen but dropped out after two semesters. He then moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his college friend and bandmate, Clay Cook in 1998 where his musical talent continued to evolve.
Local producer and engineer Glenn Matullo helped John Mayer to record the independent EP Inside Wants Out. His first commercial single release was No Such Thing. Follow-up album, Heavier Things was released in 2003 and brought critical and commercial success even though it did not sell well. Mayer, however got a Grammy for Song of the Year in 2005 for his most successful single to date, Daughters. John Mayer dedicated the award of live performance to his grandmother, Annie Hoffman, who passed away in May 2004. He also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and the Hal David Starlight Award.
Due to collaborations with hip hop artist and producer Kanye West, John Mayer concert tour received praise from rap heavyweights like Jay-Z and Nelly. Together they appeared on rapper Common's song Go!.
