Brian McKnight had a flair for music and singing ever since he was a young boy. For him, his musical journey kicked off back when he became a part of his church’s choir and later a band leader during his stay at the high school. Later McKnight started recording his own demo tapes in order to strike a record deal. He was encouraged to do so after his elder brother struck a record deal with Warner Bros. for his band Take 6 back in 1990. By the time McKnight was 19, he scored his first ever record deal with Wing Records, a subsidiary of Mercury Records.

McKnight made his debut as a recording artist in 1992 with the release of his self-titled debut album which took the 58th spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also featured his first top twenty single, One Last Cry. In 1995 he came up with his follow up album called I Remember You which was then followed by Anytime. The Latter one turned out to be the album that earned him his first Grammy Nomination, and was also his last album with Mercury.

In 1998 Brian McKnight signed a deal with Motown Records and released his Christmas album called Bethlehem. This was then followed by another album called Back at One in 1999, which turned out to be his most commercially successful album by far, as it sold more than three million copies. The most recent album of his is More Than Words, in which all the songs are written, composed and produced by McKnight himself.
