Social Distortion’s lineup consists of many renowned punk rockers including Mike Ness on vocals and guitar, Jonny Wickersham on guitars, Brent Harding on bass and David Hidalgo Jr. on drums. It was founded in 1978 by Mike Ness after being inspired by bands like The Rolling Stones while studying in high school. He was soon joined by original bassist Dennis Danell. In 1981, the first single Manliner/Playpen was released through the record label Posh Boy which at the time was famous for releasing albums for local punk bands. It soon gained the attention of Californians after receiving a lot of airplay on radio stations such as the KROQ-FM. In 1984, it released a punk rockumentary and its song, Another State of Mind, gained massive popularity. This song also featured on MTV while the band was touring states such as Arizona and California. In 1989, it was signed onto the major record label Epic Records and released a self-titled album in 1990. It contained three hit singles and was an instant hit amongst fans of punk rock. It is now regarded as one of the best albums released by the band. It was followed in 1992 by the album Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell which contained two hit singles, When She Begins and Bad Luck.
 
In 1995, Social Distortion released a compilation album after touring for several years. This album contained a cover of Under My Thumb, a song by The Rolling Stones. In 1996, their fifth studio album White Light, White Heat, White Trash was released and was followed by a live album in 1998. In 2000, they began work on their next studio album but postponed its release due to many tours and live concerts they were doing. This album was finally released in 2004 as Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll. The band then went on tour and continued performing at many venues all over the US and other parts of the world. In 2009, they began working on their next albums and in 2010, Social Distortion became the headlining act the Lollapalooza music festival as a headliner. The same year, they signed with the Epitaph Records and released their next album in 2011.
 
Social Distortion’s discography consists of two compilation albums, two DVDs, one live album and seven studio albums. Their 2011 album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, ranked fourth on the Billboard 200 music charts.
