Sugarland began as a trio of singer/songwriters from the Atlanta, GA. It is an American country music band currently consisting of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. Sugarland was formed by Kristen Hall in 2003. However, Hall left the band later. Prior to the inception of Sugarland, each of the three members had some level of renown as a solo performer. 'We all come from singer/songwriter backgrounds', says Nettles. 'We share some similar influences, but as a whole, we have diverse musical backgrounds. When we come together we complement each other and create an interesting and unique sound'.
The trio started working together in 2002, self-releasing an EP of demo recordings called 'Premium Quality Tunes'. Within minutes of getting together, the trio started planning to create something completely different than anything any of them had done before. Having done a series of phenomenal live shows that began to build a buzz around the band, they were signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2004.
Sugarland broke through that year with the release of their debut air 'Baby Girl', the first single from their multi-platinum debut album. In the same year, the three successful singer/songwriters with several years of experience released their full-length debut album filled with solid, intelligent music. Twice The Speed of Life was astounded by the audience reaction. Most of the songs are rootsy and lyrically sophisticated, but still catchy. After the release of the album, even the group members themselves were slightly shocked by how fresh-sounding and consistently optimistic the music they produced together is.
The passion and optimism of the group courses throughout 'Twice The Speed of Life'. Declaring strength without failing into stridency, the songs are a celebration of all that life has in store. After Kristen Hall's departure, Sugarland recorded its second full-length album titled 'Enjoy the Ride' in 2006. Kristen Hall, a gifted songwriter, was credited with working on only a single track on Enjoy the Ride.
Hall's abrupt departure from the band in 2006, left Sugarland a duo. Her leaving raised a few eyebrows. By the time, the duo signed with Atlantic Records and put out two critically acclaimed albums. The album Enjoy The Ride again proved to be a huge success, garnering attention in both pop and country music. It was certified 2x Multi-Platinum like its predecessor.
Enjoy The Ride also produced Sugarland's first two Number Ones in 'Want To' and 'Settlin', and additional Top Tens in 'Everyday America' and 'Stay'. In 2006, Jennifer Nettles served as a duet partner on Bon Jovi's first country single 'Who Says You Can't Go Home'. The single turned out to be Number One on the country charts.
In 2007, Sugarland received the Country Music Association's Duo of the Year award. 'All I Want to Do' was released in June 2008 as the lead-off to their third studio album called, 'Love on the Inside'. In August, All I Want to Do has become the duo's third number One country hit.
