Young Jeezy is the stage name of hip hop rapper Jay Wayne Jenkins, a current band member of United Streets Dopeboyz of America. He has formerly rapped for the hip hop band Black Mafia Family as well.  He released his solo debut album titled Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, in 2005 when at the same time he joined the band, Boyz ‘N Da Hood. The single Soul Survivor form his solo album was instantly spotted on the US hip hop charts and joined the ranks of top ten national hits. His next album, The Inspiration was released in 2006, followed by his third album The Recession in 2008, both of which were filled with commercially successful singles.  Jeezy has contributed to several other R&B and rap singles by other artists including Christina Milan’s Say I, Akron’s I’m So Paid, Rihanna’s Hard and Usher’s Love in This Club.  While these songs were seen topping US charts, Usher’s single took the number one spot on the US charts of Billboard Hot 100. The artist’s commercial popularity as made Young Jeezy tickets a favorite among town talk dailies.
 
In 2001, Young Jeezy released his very first independent album titled Thuggin’ Under the Influence with the name Lil J.  The album featured other artists from the likes of Lil Jon, Fidank and kinky B and Freddy J. Two years later Jeezy another record called Come Shop with Me, which was a two set CD comprising of new songs and some tracks from his earlier release. In 2004, the rapper signed with the Bad Boys Records, and in the meantime joined the band Boyz n da Hood who released an album the following year in June.  This album reached the fifth place on album charts on Billboard 200
 
In 2005, Young Jeezy’s album Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 was released, instantly hitting the second place on the US charts, and selling a hundred and seventy-two thousand copies in the initial week.  Several hits featuring other big artists climbed up on the Billboard; Soul Survivor with Akon hit the fourth spot on Billboard Hot 100 charts and first spot on Hot Rap Tracks, while And Then What with Mannie Fresh climbed up to the sixty-seventh place on Hot 100 and the thirteenth place on Hot Rap Tracks. Another single from the same album, My Hood went on the nineteenth spot on Rap charts. Shakir Stewart, the Vice President Artist of Def Jam, told HitQuarters, an international music publication,  that Jeezy had gone on to record more than sixty songs for his debut act.
 
Young Jeezy released his third album titled The Recession in 2008, which was opened with the lead single Put On that featured Kanye West and brought the artist a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Rap performance by a duo.  Other singles such as Vacation, My President, Who Dat, and Crazy World followed for the completion of the album’s singles. During that time Jeezy contributed to R&B singles such as Usher’s Love in This Club, Akon’s I’m So Paid, and a Ciara track Never Ever. In 2009, Jeezy alongside Jay-Z performed at a concert in celebration of President Barack Obama’s inauguration.  As of November 2009, Jeezy has been reportedly working on another studio album called Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition, which includes the singles, F.A.M.E, I Do, Leave You Alone, Lose My Mind and Ballin with the latter featuring Lil Wayne.  This album debuted on the third spot on the US charts Billboard 200, while selling two hundred and thirty-three thousand copies within the initial week of release. Since the January of 2012 the album has been certified gold since five hundred thousand copies were shipped within the US. In February 2012, within a month’s time, the album sold over four hundred and sixty-two thousand copies.
 
Young Jeezy has won several awards including a BET Award, a BET Hip Hop Award for Best Hip Hop Collaboration (2008), and two Ozone Awards for Best Rap Album and Best Rap /R&B Collaboration. He has also received three Grammy Award nominations in 2009, 2010 and 2011, in the same category of Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
