Yuja Wang is of Chinese origin. She was born in the city of Beijing on 10th February, 1987. Her fascination with piano started when she started to learn the instrument at the age of six. From there onwards she went onto study at the famous Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. She spent three years at the institution where she fine tuned her skills under the watchful eyes of Zhou Guangren and Ling Yuan. From there she enrolled herself at the Morningside Music at the Mount Royal College in Calgary, Canada. The program was a joint collaboration of culture exchange between China and Canada. The time she spent there between 1999 and 2001 took her knowledge to the next level.  She went on to compete and win the Aspen Music Festival when she was only fifteen years old. Her next move was to shift to the U.S. to learn from Gary Graffman in Philadelphia at The Curtis Institute of Music. She showed the European audience the incredible range of her skills in 2003 at Zurich. There she performed Beethoven Fourth and that launched her into the limelight.
 
Her North American debut came when she teamed up to perform with Pinchas Zukerman in 2005 at Ottawa. Yuja Wang’s talents were really starting to make headlines during that time period and her profile was further enhanced with the capture of the Gilmore Young Artist award later in 2005. That was the start of a journey that has taken her to perform with the biggest names in the business at the grandest stages in the world. Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, National Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony and the Pittsburgh Orchestra are some of the most notable stages where this amazing young performer has mesmerized everyone that has been luck enough to watch her perform in the U.S. Wang’ performances haven’t only been restricted to these shores. Her first tour of the US came in 2008 that was led by Sir Neville Marriner. The next year saw her teaming up with the You Tube Symphony Orchestra to perform. Her performances in the US and abroad brought her a lot of recognition. She landed her first recording deal with Deutsche Grammophon in 2009. She made her debut as a recording artist with the CD Sonates & Etudes later that year. It became a huge hit upon its release which earned it a Grammy nomination. She followed that up with Transformation in 2010 and Rachmaninov the next year. Her most recent release came in the form of Fantasia which hit the music stores in 2012, March. Wang is a constant presence on the touring schedule with dates that go well over one hundred every year. Her hectic schedule puts her in the company of the busiest performers in the world.
