Some of the best and most exciting teams in National League history have been fielded by The Pittsburgh Pirates. But, Pittsburgh Pirates later lost each playoff series, two of them in the final game. Bonds left in 1993 and 2002 and 2003 campaigns resulted in 4th place finishes. Despite this, the fans are still optimistic as they know that their team is fully capable of turning as they have talented players though the defense last year was somewhat shaky.
As the bullpen will be one of their biggest strengths this season, they will be counting on veteran Salomon Torres, 35, to close out games. The reaction of their young hurlers to the opportunity compete in the NL Central will determine their success.
