San Francisco Giants have always produced stars and hasn’t stopped yet. Willie Mays, one of the last holdovers of the New York years, thrived in San Francisco, as did Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda, Felipe Alou, Jack Clark, and Juan Marichal. Recent stars include Will Clark, Matt Williams, Barry Bonds, and Jason Schmidt. Knowing that the team is he's running out of time to win with Barry Bonds, GM Brian Sabean brought in a cast of "Thirty something" -- Omar Vizquel, Moises Alou, Mike Matheny and Armando Benitez. This made the San Francisco Giants the favorites in the NL West.

San Francisco Giants start was dismal, sitting eight games under .500 and behind the league leaders on May 18. But after Jason Schmidt's one-hit shutout of the Cubs that day, the San Francisco Giants rip off the fourth-best record in the Majors and put themselves squarely in playoff contention. The Dodgers hold off the Giants for the division title, and only a scorching run by Houston keeps San Francisco out of the Wild Card slot.

In 1992, it was Magowan leading a group of San Francisco business leaders who saved the San Francisco Giants from moving to Florida in an 11th-hour effort. But he always knew that the Giants franchise was not secure in San Francisco until a new ballpark was built to replace much-maligned Candlestick Park. In order to raise money, the San Francisco Giants' president joined club Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Larry Baer and developed a marketing campaign that reaped 29,500 season ticket holders, including 15,000 Charter Seat members. This was triple the previous record for a Major League Baseball team. For all his effort, Magowan was named "2000 Executive of the Year" by Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal. All this work paid off as endless capacity crowds jammed into the city's sparkling new jewel by the bay. They knew that the Giants baseball was alive and well in San Francisco as was there to stay.

San Francisco Giants were tipped to win the 2005 season but 2006 was unsuccessful with multitude of injuries following the players. Barry Bonds has been out of form after returning from three knee surgeries. The injuries made him struggle in spring season but he managed to hit his third Spring Training home run. He also received death threats, as he attempts to break Hank Aaron's all-time home run record. Armando Benitez is still recovering from sore knees. Brandon Webb has a sore neck.

It was Infielder Ray Durham who hit the season's first two home runs leading the second with a homer. Masterfully, he hit a solo shot with one out in the forth. Even though, Barry Zito became the most expensive pitcher in MLB history by signing a seven year deal worth $126 million, he made up with superb play; displaying elegance and sharpness by recording strikeouts using his fastball, curveball and changeup. Shortstop Omar Vizquel and 24-year old Johnathan Sanchez have potential. Rich Aurilia is slated to be the primary first baseman. Kevin Frandsen’s RBI single pushed them ahead in a two-run Giants' eight innings. Matt Cain might sign a contract for four years with the option of a fifth. Former manager arch rival San Diego Padres, Bruce Bochy, just took up managerial duties for the Giants.

Will Bonds hit the required 22 Home Runs to break Hank Aron's record of 755? or will Zito steal the thunder?
