Denver Nuggets are a basketball team that are a member of the NBA and play in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. Based in Colorado, they were called Denver Larks at the time of their inception in 1967, when they were a charter franchise in the ABA. Their name was later changed to Rockets, just before their first season. The team established itself as one of the most successful acts in the league. The Nuggets changed their name yet again, before joining the NBA in the merger of 1976. Their current home ground is the Pepsi Center, prior to which they played their home games at the McNichols Sports Arena and Denver Auditorium Arena. Through the years, the Nuggets have won several awards, while three of its players have been inducted in Basketball Hall of Fame, which includes Alex English, Dan Issel and David Thompson. Pepsi Center, the home ground of Denver Nuggets, which is also known as The Can, covers nineteen thousand meters square of land, and provides a seating capacity of more than nineteen thousand for basketball games. It is located at Speer Boulevard, where it is easily accessible through Downtown Denver, and is further facilitated by a close exit from Interstate 25, while another rail station runs on the complex’s western end. The multi-purpose arena was built as a portion of a huge six-year athletics venue alongside Coors Field and Sports Authority Field. With a construction cost of a hundred and sixty million dollars, the arena was completed in 1999. The arena features a practice facility for basketball that the Nuggets often use, and also includes a restaurant called Blue Sky Grill, which is accessible from the outside and inside of the arena. The Pepsi Center has hosted several prominent games such as the Stanley Cup Finals of 2001, NBA All-Star Game of 2005, and NHL All-Star Game of 2001. In fact, from 2004 to 2006, the arena hosted the men’s basketball tournament of Mountain West Conference.

In 1967, a group in Kansas City was awarded an ABA charter franchise, headed by a businessman of Southern California, James Trindle. Trindle could not find a befitting arena in Kansas, and was advised by George Mikan, the league commissioner, to move the team to Denver. Trindle deiced to name a former NBA player and Denver native Vince Boryla as the general manager, following which Trindle relocated his team to Denver calling it Denver Larks based on the state birds of Colorado.  The Trindle group faced undercapitalization issues due to which, eventually the team was sold to Bill Ringsby, a trucking magnate who renamed the franchise the Rockets. It was a few years later when the team’s name would be changed to Denver Nuggets in anticipation of the ABA-NBA merger
Denver Nuggets struggled through their initial years, unsuccessful in entering a championship series.  It was after acquiring Bobby Jones and Dan Issel, and the signing and drafting of Marvin Webster and David Thompson, under the coaching of Larry Brown that the Nuggets marked their most successful seasons ever, with the Nuggets finally advancing to the1975-76 ABA Finals. The Denver team was among the four ABA franchises that got into NBA, alongside San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, and New York Nets. The Nets and Nuggets had applied in 1975 to become part of the NBA, but owing to a court order they had to remain in the ABA for some time.

Denver Nuggets have won seven Division titles since joining NBA, and are currently under head coach George Karl. The team has gathered many awards including the categories of NBA Coach of Year, All-NBA First Team, NBA Rookie First Team, NBA Sportsmanship Award and NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
