World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. or WWE is a privately controlled but publicly traded American entertainment company. The company has been known previously with names like World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc., Titan Sports Inc., and Capital Wrestling Corporation Ltd. It is the largest professional wrestling company in the world today. Although, the company primarily deals in professional wrestling, its other sources of income are direct product sales, product licensing, music and films. The company’s shows are shown in 145 countries and in 30 different languages. WWE has 13 million viewers in the US alone.

WWE is based in Stamford, Connecticut . It also has offices in cities like Sydney, Toronto, Tokyo, London, New York City, and Los Angeles. The McMahon family owns majority shares with Vince McMahon being the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman. He along with his wife, Linda McMahon and their children, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque, and Shane McMahon, hold 96% of the voting power and 70% of economic interest in the company. It promotes its products under two brands, WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown.

WWE Raw is a professional wrestling entertainment television program, which airs on USA Network in the US on Monday nights. It is considered to be the company’s flagship program due to its emphasis on pay-per-view, weekly live format, high ratings, and prolific history. The program first aired in 1993 as WWF Monday Night Raw . The Undertaker is the only wrestler left from that program/era who still actively fights today. Raw changed the very nature of professionally wrestling. It wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that it revolutionized the sport; bringing it to every American home. It was shot in front of live audience. WWE SmackDown is the other brand promoting professional wrestling entertainment television program. Unlike WWE Raw, it airs on Syfy Network, on Friday nights in HD. SmackDown started in 1999 and use to air on Thursday nights. It moved to Friday nights ever since 2005. The show is usually recorded on Tuesday nights, to be aired on Friday evenings. It opens with “Know Your Enemy”, by Green Day. Previously it used to open with “Let it Roll”, by Divide the Day.

Wade Barrett and Randy Orton are the present day champions of WWE SmackDown. Barrett defeated Kofi Kingston to win WWE Intercontinental Championship, while Orton defeated Christian to win World Heavyweight Championship. The current WWE Tag Team Champion is Kane , who defeated Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater , also known as The Corre, in 2011.
