Sophie is about to marry her fiance, Sky, and wants her father to give her away at her wedding but she isn't sure of his identity as Donna won't talk about her past. By accident, Sophie finds her mother's old diary which has entries of Donna's intimate dates with three men.
As she has no idea about the right man, she invites them all to the wedding without Donna's knowledge leading to her confusion when all three show up. Harry 'Head Banger' Bright, Bill Austin, and Sam Carmichael make up the trio. Donna's old friends; Tanya, a rich three-time divorce, and Rosie, an unmarried woman who likes to have fun also show up. Together they made up 'Donna and the Dynamos' twenty years ago.
Initially believing that Bill is her father, Sophie asks him to give her away. Later, the other two also believe that they are the ones who'll do the deed. To straighten the mix, Sophie decides that her mother should give her away. This leads to Sam's confrontation with Donna about the paternity issue. As the scene progresses, it becomes more evident that Sam and Donna are still desperately in love, angrily and against their wills.
Sophie's paternity is undetermined and sine she and Sky are having second thoughts about their impending marriage they drop the plans and Donna and Sam swallow their pride and are married instead.
