While Alicia was still in her childhood, her parents parted their ways and eventually Alicia Keys started living with her mother. She had her interest in music from her early ages and started playing piano when she was only seven and apart from that she also started learning music from composers like Mozart, Chopin and Beethoven. Alicia Keys Graduated from Professional Performing Arts School and for further studies she took an admission in Columbia University, but later she decided to pursue her music career; hence she dropped out of University. Initially Keys signed a record deal with So So Def label which was distributed by Columbia Records, however her contract with Columbia Records ended soon enough and then she was signed by Arista Records. Arista Records was later disassembled as well so she ultimately signed with J Records label.
Alicia Keys released her debut album titled, Songs in a Minor, on 5 June, 2001 which was a huge success and fetched Keys her part of the stardom all across the globe. "Fallin'" was the albums first single and it earned #1 spot on U.S Billboard Hot 100 and was able to remain on that spot for 6 weeks. The success of her first album wasn't just limited to charts, but she also received 5 Grammy Awards in 2002 for "Song of the Year", "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance"," Best R&B Song" for "Fallin'", "Best New Artist", and "Best R&B Album".
Keys released her second studio album, "The Diary of Alicia Keys", on December 2, 2003 and came out to be an even more successful than her debut album. The album fetched her #1 spot on U.S music charts. The album contained her hit singles such as "If I Ain't Got You" and "You Don't Know My Name". The following year Keys won MTV Video Music award for Best R&B Video for her song If I Ain't Got You, and won another MTV Video Music Award for best R&B video for her song "Karma".
Alicia Keys released her album, "Unplugged", on October 11, 2005, which mainly comprised of live sessions in which she performed some of the favorite cover songs. The album also featured guest stars such as Common, Mos Def, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Damien Marley.
Alicia Keys released her most recent studio album, "As I Am", on November 13, 2007 and just like her previous albums it also debuted at number 1 spot on US Billboard Hot 200. This album also got her 2 Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" and "Best R&B Song" in 2008 Grammy Awards.
Alicia Keys is currently on her "As I Am Tour" to support her third studio album "As I Am". The tour Started on February 28, 2008 in National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England and is scheduled to end on December 20, 2008 in Sandalford Wines in Swan Valley, Australia. During this tour, Keys with hit different venues in France, UK, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Australia, Asia, New Zealand, Africa, South America and in the US.
