Alison was born on 23rd July, 1971 and raised in Champaign, Illinois. She credits her mother as being the major reason she turned to music at a very early age. Alison’s first album with the Union Station as a backup band was released in 1987 and it was titled Too Late to Cry. The album was a success and received a lot of positive acclaim from everywhere. She followed that up with her first full album featuring the Union Station. The album was titled Two Highways and got a Grammy nomination for the Best Bluegrass Recording. Her next album I’ve Got That Old Feeling was a solo album. She was working with the Union Station as well but according to the terms of the contract with her label she had to do some solo work for them. The album won her the first of her astonishing twenty six Grammy Awards. The success of the album propelled bluegrass to levels not seen before especially in the 1980’s. As her contract with the label came to a close she started working more with the Union Station.
Alison Krauss & Union Station's next release was in 1992, titled Every Time You Say Goodbye. The album was a hug hit and got her the second Grammy of her career. Alison released a compilation Now That I've Found You: A Collection in 1995 and that took her success to a whole new level. The album turned out to be one of her biggest hits and it sold over one million copies. Alison Krauss & Union Station released one hit after another following that and have not looked back since. Albums like So Long, Forget About It and New Favorite etc made them the leading lights of bluegrass. They have also played with some of the leading artists of the time and headlined various major concerts together.
