Punk Princess, Avril Lavigne, was born on 27 September, 1984 to French-Canadian couple of John Lavigne and Judy Lavigne. Her birth name was Avril Lavigne Whibley and was born in Belleville, Ontario. Avril Lavigne had a singer in her from the very beginning, and that inner singer of hers was initially discovered by her mother, with whom she used to sing along on church songs. By the time she was five years of age, she along with her family moved to Napanee, Ontario.
Lavigne made her first appearance on a bigger music stage, as she won a competition, to sing along with Shania Twain in her concert in Ottawa, in 1998. After that, Avril Lavigne started singing covers of several country songs at Chapters Bookstore located in Kingston Ontario. It was that very bookstore where Cliff Fabri, that would go on to be her first professional manager, discovered her. Later on she also got a chance to sing for Canadian Folk singer Steve Medd, as he heard her singing during her performance at Lennox Community theatre.
Avril Lavigne got her first record deal with Arista Records at the time she was 16, and started working on her debut album titled "Let Go". The album was released on June 4, 2002 and took #2 spot on American Music Charts, while it took #1 in Australia, Canada and UK. As of today, album is a certified 4x Platinum after selling over 16 Million Copies Worldwide. The album included some of the hits singles from her music career. One of them was titled "Complicated" that toped on #2 spot on U.S top 100 and was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. Some other singles from this album included Sk8er Boi; I'm With You, and Losing Grip.
Avril Lavigne released her second studio album titled, Under My Skin, on 25 May, 2004. The album, like the previous one, also came out to be a success story and debuted at #1 in UK, US, Canada and several other countries. The album contained hit singles such as "Don't Tell Me", "My Happy Ending" and "Nobody's Home". Earlier that year, Avril went on "Live and by Surprise Tour" in order to promoted her album "Under My Skin", which started on 4 March, 2004.
Avril Lavigne's third and most recent album, The Best Damn Thing, came out on 17 April, 2007, and also came out to be a success story as it debuted at #1 spot in United States. "Girlfriend" was her first single from The Best Damn Thing, and it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart as it took the #1 spot. Other singles include in her third album are, "The Best Damn Thing", "When You're Gone" and "Hot".
Currently Avril Lavigne is on "The Best Damn Tour", which started on March 5, 2008. The tour started off in Canada and US, later in from May to July Lavigne performed in Europe, and now she's back to perform in US and Canada from July to August, and later she would be performing in Asia, where The Best Damn Tour will end in September 2008 as scheduled. Avril Lavigne is scheduled to perform 110 shows throughout her tour.
