Brian McKnight had a flair for music and singing ever since he was a young boy. For him, his musical journey kicked off back when he became a part of his church’s choir and later a band leader during his stay at the high school. Later McKnight started recording his own demo tapes in order to strike a record deal. He was encouraged to do so after his elder brother struck a record deal with Warner Bros. for his band Take 6 back in 1990. By the time McKnight was 19, he scored his first ever record deal with Wing Records, a subsidiary of Mercury Records.
McKnight made his debut as a recording artist in 1992 with the release of his self-titled debut album which took the 58th
spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also featured his first top twenty single, One Last Cry.
In 1995 he came up with his follow up album called I Remember You
which was then followed by Anytime.
The Latter one turned out to be the album that earned him his first Grammy Nomination, and was also his last album with Mercury.
In 1998 Brian McKnight signed a deal with Motown Records and released his Christmas album called Bethlehem.
This was then followed by another album called Back at One
in 1999, which turned out to be his most commercially successful album by far, as it sold more than three million copies. The most recent album of his is More Than Words,
in which all the songs are written, composed and produced by McKnight himself. The album also features the voices of Colbie Caillat, and his two sons, Niko & Brian McKnight Jr. With his sons, McKnight also performed at the MLB Opening Day on March 31, 2011 where he sang the National Anthem. Prior to that, he has also sang the National Anthem at 1997 NBA All Star Game, 2002 World Series’ Game 6, and 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Apart from all that, he has also sang the Anthem at various other occasions as well. In National League Champion Series’ Game 7, he also sang God Bless America.
Over the time, McKnight has also ventured into various other forms of performing arts, including performing in the hit Broadway show called Chicago.
For one season, McKnight also hosted The Brian McKnight Show
which was unfortunately cancelled after its first season. From 2006 to 2010, he also played host along with Pat Prescott to a radio show called The Brian McKnight Morning Show.
He also appeared at the Celerity Apprentice’s second season.
Following the release of his most recent studio album, Brian McKnight is scheduled to head on out on a concert tour to help promote his album. So while he does so, you have a chance of catching him live in act with Brian McKnight tickets.
