Building up on the acclaimed sound of
Riverdance and incorporating influences from genres across the board, musical director David Downs fashioned
Celtic Woman in 1994, with the feminine spark being provided by Sharon Browne, a producer at Celtic Collections Records. David combined the vocal prowess of Lisa Kelley, Chloë Agnew as well as Órla Fallon with the fiddling flair of Máiréad Nesbitt to constitute the first line up of
Celtic Woman and then launched them on the world's stage via a PBS airing of their seminal performance at The Helix in Dublin, Ireland.
Celtic Woman came with their self-titled debut album a year later and took the classical music world by a storm.
Celtic Woman, released as a CD and accompanied by a DVD recording of their earlier performance at The Helix, climbed to the top of Billboard's World Music chart and ruled the roost for 81 weeks, breaking the record of 67 weeks initially set by Andre Bocelli.
Celtic Woman's eponymous debut album was only dethroned by their own sophomore offering
Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration that was released in 2006 and was followed up by
Celtic Woman: A New Journey the following year. This record reprised the release style of the debut album by being bundled with a DVD copy of the taping of their live performance that had been delivered at Slane Castle located in Ireland's County Meath the previous year. The album broke into the top-ten of Billboard 200 and peaked at the 4th spot, besides claiming its hereditary position at the top of the Billboard world music chart. By then, all three top spots on the chart were occupied by the first trifecta of
Celtic Woman albums.
Enjoying another PBS televised concert airing in December 2007,
Celtic Woman undertook their fourth musical excursion in 2008 in the form of
Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey. However, their fifth studio offering took some time to blossom, and it did by the start of 2010 as
Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart that soon ripened at the 48th spot on the ARIA Top 50 albums chart.
Celtic Woman went on a music producing frenzy in 2011 that resulted in a quartet of records, completely inundating the World Music scene. They started by ensuing
Lullaby that floated to the top of the Billboard World music chart and then after encapsulating their faith in
Believe (Compilation) and undertaking
An Irish Journey, capped it off by celebrating
A Celtic Christmas.
Celtic Woman renewed their faith at the start of 2012 by releasing their latest album
Believe.
Following their formation in 2004,
Celtic Woman embarked on a US Tour the following year, trooping to over a dozen cities and then retraced their steps in 2007 and 2008 as well as upping the ante by making 88 and 75 performing pit stops respectively. In their 2009
Isle of Hope Tour,
Celtic Woman enchanted crowds everywhere with their favorite tracks such as "You Raise Me Up" as well as renditions of popular hits such as "Fields of Gold," "Danny Boy" and "The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun". Though their sound has been compared to the likes of Enya, Loreena McKennitt and The Corrs,
Celtic Woman's changing line-up has always kept the music fresh and the tunes abreast of what their contemporaries might have to offer. So book some
