Fourth-place finalist on the highly publicized fifth season of American Idol, Christopher Adam "Chris Daughtry" is an American rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is also the lead vocalist of Daughtry, a popular rock band formed by him in 2006. Though Chris Daughtry was later eliminated from the American Idol competition, his band's self-titled debut album released on November 21, 2006, had record breaking sales and reached number 1 on the Billboard charts in its 9th week. Neither the winner nor the runner-up of his season, his new single 'Home' is being used as the final send-off for the season 6 contestants.
Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina on December 26, 1979 to Pete and Sandra Daughtry, Chris Daughtry was raised in Charlottesville, Virginia and later relocated to McLeansville outside of Greensboro, North Carolina. He currently lives in Oak Ridge, NC which is right outside of Greensboro, NC. An artist in his spare time, Chris Daughtry specializes in drawing and painting and became a performer with other rock bands during his time in high school. At 16, music was his life and he appeared in two stage productions: The Wiz and Peter Pan before graduating from Fluvanna High School in Palmyra, Virginia in 1998.
Chris Daughtry official auditioned for American Idol in Denver, Colorado with The Boxtops' ?The Letter?. He was inspired by Bo Bice and came across as a young rocker with Southern and hard rock influences. Chris Daughtry concert passed through even though Simon Cowell felt that he was too robotic.
Countless shows invited Chris Daughtry as a guest after his vote out from American Idol. He appeared on The Tonight Show, The Today Show, Total Request Live, Live with Regis and Kelly and The Ellen DeGeneres Show on which he performed "Wanted Dead or Alive"?his track on the American Idol Season Five: Encores CD. While interviewing Bill Clinton and George HW Bush for the Bush-Clinton Katrina fund, Ellen even asked them if anything could be done about Daughtry's elimination.
Chris Daughtry band has proved quite successful since Idol. He was named the Hot Shot Debut of the week for the week of June 10, 2006 and charted #43 on the Billboard Hot 100. He performed a parody of Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" with comedian Jimmy Fallon on the 2006 MTV Movie Awards. On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Chris Daughtry played a father who took out the trash to a talking garbage can on June 16, 2006. Chris Daughtry?s debut album reached number one in Billboard Charts and he joined the ranks of Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, and Clay Aiken as the only contestants to reach number one in Billboard 200.
WDCG 105.1's Bob and the Showgram became the first radio station to play tracks from his new album on October 26, 2006 and his homecoming solo concert was hosted by The North Carolina State University Alumni Association and Student Homecoming Committee. Chris Daughtry band performed The Star-Spangled Banner in concerts at the NFL's NFC Conference Championship game in Chicago, IL on January 21, 2007. He talked about his success on Idol, of how his bands' debut album went platinum in a few weeks, and also played acoustic guitar on the #1 song, Its Not Over.
