The American rock band formed in 2009 in Athens, Alabama Shakes consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Brittany Howard, bassist Zac Cockrell, drummer Steve Johnson, guitarist Heath Fogg and keyboard player Ben Tanner. The band has made its mark by garnering devoted fan following as well as several awards including three Grammy nominations.
The band started their professional career with Clearwave Recording Studio and produced several songs that were termed as most original songs. Towards the end of 2011, the band released their extended play which consisted of four songs. Their EP was widely liked and eventually earned them an invitation to come and play at CMJ music Marathon Industry showcase. The show went successful and the distinctive style of the band was appreciated by media as well as general public.
New York Times praised the band’s high energy and unique music. In 2012, the band was included in the MTV’s list of Eleven Artists to Watch. Same year, they performed a closing set for 2012 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and also performed at the Newport Folk Festival receiving wide appreciation.
The band also did some cover songs of renowned musicians and bands including James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Otis Redding, AC/DC and gained critical acclaim. In over a year, the band stepped up from a local band to national celebrities playing at historic Ryman Auditorium, the Troubadour, Music Box Theatre and several other venues. In February 2012, they were nominated for mtvU award for best live performance. April 2012 brought forward band’s much anticipated debut album titled
Boys & Girls. It was well received by fans and music lovers and was certified gold. The group received Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package for their album. The band has also been nominated for BRIT Awards for International Group while they won Americana Music Honors & Award for Emerging Artist of the Year.
What started with a meeting of Alex Ebert and fellow singer Castrinos in a café in Los Angeles, led to the formation of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in 2007. The band members reached to a number of ten by 2009 when the band released its debut album

Janglin. 2012’s

The band is named after a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe, Ebert was really inspired from. In 2009, Ebert along with Castrinos and other musicians toured around the country by bus under the name Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Over the years, the band has toured worldwide performing at Europe, North American and many places in Australia and winning audiences’ hearts everywhere.
