Maine is a spectacular American alternative rock band from Tempe, Arizona that has been active in American music since 2007. Known also as The Maine, this is a band whose music is presently released in the US by Action Theory and in Europe by Rude Records. It has also been released for public consumption by record labels such as Fearless Records, Sire Records and Warner Bros. Records. The band has also played and collaborated with many artists and groups including Taking Back Sunday, A Rocket to the Moon, Austin Gibbs, All Time Low, Augustana, This Century,Good Charlotte, Lydia, The Summer Set, Arkells and Brighten. Members of Maine today are vocalist and guitarist John O’Callaghan, rhythm guitarist Kennedy Brock, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, drummer Patrick Kirch and bassist Garrett Nickelsen. Since their founding, they have released several EPs, both of which were released in 2007. Their debut album, Cant Stop, Wont Stop came out in 2008 and was followed by a holiday album the same year. Their second album was released in 2010. Titled Black & White, it sold over twenty two thousand copies in its first week of release, a breathtaking achievement. Their third studio album was released in 2011 and was labeled Pioneer. It charted on the Billboard 200 and was followed by 2013’s Forever Halloween, which ranked high on the Billboard 200 and more than ten thousand copies of it were sold in the first week of release.
Maine was founded by drummer Patrick Kirch and bassist Garrett Nickelsen in 2006 with vocalist John O’Callaghan joining the pair after auditions. Alex Ross and Ryan Osterman, two more musicians, joined the band and together they released their first EP in 2007. The EP was titled Stay Up, Get Down with the band being signed onto Fearless Records in late 2007. Their first release through the label was an EP dubbed The Way We Talk. It received much critical and commercial acclaim, attracting attention to the as of then under production debut album.
Their first album was released in 2008 and produced by Matt Squire. It was followed by a tour with Boys Like Girls and Good Charlotte in 2008. Later that year, they went on tour supporting The Academy Is alongside We The Kings on their tour of the UK. During the Christmas holidays, they released an EP titled And a Happy New Year. It contained a number of original songs as well as a cover of a popular song. In 2009, they were signed onto Warner Bros. Records and then toured with We the Kings, The Cab, There For Tomorrow and VersaEmerge on The Secret Valentine tour. They also played on the famous Vans Warped Tour in 2009.
In 2010, their second album came out, followed by playing live concerts all over the nation in the Harmony tour, alongside Never Shout Never. The tour was also spectacular in that the bands urged supporters to collect canned goods to help the needy. Together, they released a special EP in 2010 with the band also released a box set on iTunes. By then, they had released two books for their fans, one with photos and journal entries and the other with poems by John O’Callaghan.
In 2011, they kicked off an international tour that visited the Philippines, Australia, UK and much of Europe. They performed at festivals such as Soundwave and also toured with Never Shout never for the second time. In they US, they toured as headliners with Augustana and then went on tour with Bad Rabbits and Taking Back Sunday. They also performed a live show on Fuel TV. Later that year, they released their third album through Rude Records and released their fourth in 2013.
With four albums, one LP box set and three EPs to their name, this is a band that ahs won many awards including three AP Magazine Readers’ Awards for the Album of the Year, Best Live Band and Best Song. They are a band to enjoy live after buying Maine tickets.
