Born Martina Mcbride Mariea Schiff on July 29, 1966 in Sharon, Kansas, Martina McBride is an American Grammy nominated country music singer. Her father Daryl, who led a local band called the Schifters and introduced her to country music. At the age of 7, Martina Mcbride and her little brother, Martin joined the group. By the time she was a teenager, she was singing and playing keyboards with the Schifters playing small gigs at weddings, dances, VFW halls, and American Legion posts.
After high school Martina Mcbride gigged around Kansas with several different bands. Her small-town upbringing was highlighted by her high school graduating class only having nine other students. Martina Mcbride got married to sound engineer John McBride on May 15, 1988 and moved to Nashville in 1990 where they both took jobs touring with Garth Brooks. She eventually got a recording contract with RCA Records.
Martina Mcbride honky tonk-flavored debut album 'The Time Has Come' released in 1992. 'My Baby Loves Me' was her first hit single from her more pop-oriented second album, 1993's 'The Way That I Am'. Her anti-domestic violence anthem 'Independence Day' gave her the required visibility in 1994. It was later used as the introductory music for Sean Hannity's popular talk radio show and though McBride has appeared at benefit events organized by Hannity, Martina Mcbride has declined to take an active political stance. Martina Mcbride performed free for fans in a July 3, 2004 show in Owensboro, Kentucky to celebrate the grand opening of the new Independence Bank headquarters.
A four-time Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year winner, three-time Academy of Country Music Female Vocalist of the Year winner and a Grammy Award nominee, Martina performed The Star-Spangled Banner at Game 3 of the 2004 World Series. Martina Mcbride's 18-track CD of classic country music standards, 'Timeless' released in 2005 and landed at #1 on the Billboard Country Album Chart in its opening week. It also received critical acclaim for its authenticity towards traditional country.
Eventual winner of American Idol's 2005 season, Carrie Underwood declared McBride to be her favorite singer and performed on many of her hits. First headlining tour of Martina Mcbride, the Timeless Tour happened in 2006.
Martina Mcbride appeared as a guest coach on Canadian Idol on August 21, 2006 and announced that the season winner would be invited to join her on her Canadian tour in the spring of 2007.
'Waking Up Laughing' is McBride's ninth studio album that released on April 3, 2007. Led by the single 'Anyway', the album was solo-produced and co-written by her and this was her first attempt as previously she did not write her own songs. Martina Mcbride will be hitting the road for her Martina McBride 2007 Tour beginning in April and is scheduled to play nearly 40 dates through July. Special guests Rodney Atkins and Little Big Town will be joining her on the tour. Martina Mcbride concert appeared on American Idol, season 6 on April 18 as a one of nine celebrity coaches who worked with the contestants. She performed her hit 'Anyway' on the show.
Currently residing in Nashville with her family, Martina Mcbride and her husband have three daughters: Delaney Katharine (Born Dec. 22, 1994), Emma Justine (Born March 29, 1998), and Ava Rose Kathleen (born June 20, 2005).
