Ricky Martin's second album 'Me Amaras' released in 1993 and sold more than a million copies worldwide. After moving to Los Angeles, California in 1994, Ricky received a role as bartender (Miguel Morez) in the American soap opera General Hospital.
He recorded his fourth album 'Vuelve' while appearing for the first time in a Broadway production, as the romantic lead, Marius Pontmercy in Les Miserables. The album certified platinum by the RIAA and sold eight million copies worldwide. The famous hit anthem of the 1998 FIFA World Cup 'The Cup of Life'/'La Copa de la Vida' reached number one on the charts in sixty countries making its singer well-known.
La Historia was Martin's Spanish Greatest Hits album that released in 2001 and went to number one in the Latin Charts and stayed there for five weeks. His English greatest hits album, The Best of Ricky Martin went on to sell over one million copies. 'Life' released on October 11, 2005 becoming Martin's tenth album including songs co-written by him. He incorporated all his emotions in the production and the album debuted at number six on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart with guest appearances by Fat Joe and Amerie. He went on a Latin American tour called Una Noche con Ricky Martin for promoting 'Life' and released his next single 'It's Alright' at the end of it. It became number one in France as a different version released there including vocals by French hip-hop singer Matt Pokora.
Martin performed at the 2006 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony in Turin. Later, he went on the second leg of his world tour called One Night Only/Una Noche Con Ricky Martin World Tour that started in Manchester, U.K. and ended in Tel Aviv, Israel. Martin also performed in Egypt on May 28, 2006 following a promise to Queen Noor and recorded an Arabic/Spanglish version of 'Drop It on Me', 'Enta Omri' with Arabic pop star Cheb Mami.
A Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF, Martin has established the Ricky Martin Foundation in Puerto Rico to advocate for the welfare of children around the world. He has worked with very ill children along with his older brother. Strongly against war and those who promulgate it, Ricky Martin has also collaborated with the International Organization for Migration on the "Llama y Vive" (Call and Live), a campaign which is aimed to facilitate prevention of human trafficking, protection of the youngest victims of child trafficking, and prosecution of the traffickers.
All in all, Ricky Martin has sold over 55 million albums around the world, charting twenty one top-ten hits on the U.S. Latin Charts, eight of which reached number one, and a total of over thirty hit singles.
