Before began his career, Rob Zombie studied at the Parsons School of Design. He met Sean Yseult over there and they together formed White Zombie. The name of the band was taken from a horror movie from the year 1932 that starred Bela Lugosi. Before the band gained popularity, Rob Zombie took care of smaller projects such as helping as production assistant for a television show for children known as the Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

But it wasn’t long before White Zombie earned success. Initially, their style was more alternative rock rather than heavy metal. Releases in the late 80 have ensured some high success rates; these include Soul Crusher, Psycho Head Blowout and Make Them Die Slowly.

It was in 1992 that White Zombie hit it big with La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1. The band got a top thirty hit for their song Thunder Kiss ’65. The band’s 1995 album was another great one with Astro Creep: 2000 Songs of Love, Destruction and Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head. This album housed a big hit called More Human than Human. But behind it all, Rob Zombie was not too satisfied about being with the band and split up.

During the time of the split up, Zombie began experimenting with other genres. In 1996, Zombie began working with Mike Judge on an animated movie called Beavis and Butthead Do America. He contributed towards the soundtrack of the movie and also provided inspiration for a dream sequence in the movie. Zombie also collaborated with the rocker Alice Cooper and came up with the song Hands of Death.

Rob Zombie’s first solo venture happened in 1998 with his Hellbilly Deluxe. Songs such as Dragula, Superbeast and Living Dead Girl were major hits from the album. But he still faced some challenges when it came to creativity; this is why in 1999 he built a giant Halloween maze at the Universal Studios. He also began making his own comic books one of which is called Rob Zombie’s Spookshow International.

In 2001, Zombie released an album that has been certified Platinum; The Sinister Urge. The album had songs that were quite successful. These include hits such as Feel So Numb, Never Gonna Stop and Demon Speeding. Universal agreed to work with Zombie on his movie House of 1000 Corpses. Unfortunately, after its completion, they refused to release it since they thought it was way too violent and disturbing to show. But Zombie took the rights back and managed to give the film a theatrical release in the year 2001. The movie was great but its sequel called Devil Rejects made it bigger both at the box office and with critics.

With both movie projects and music at hand, another album was released in 2005. This was called Educated Horses and was an album that did pretty well. This album is a bit different from the first two; this one has a more alternative metal feel to it. The album also earned a number five spot on the US Billboard 100 charts and a number one spot on the Billboard Top Rock Album chart.

In 2008, Zombie’s song Lord of Salem was even nominated for a Grammy award for the Best Hard Rock Performance. In 2010, Roadrunner Records released Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool.
