Rusko, whose real name is Christopher mercer, is an English DJ and record producer of the rather recent ‘dubstep’ genre of electronic dance music which originated in the United Kingdom in the late nineties. Its sound is characterized with heavy bass, packed coil productions, very repetitive drum loops alongside occasional vocals. Rusko’s smash hits have been the frequent subject of remixes for artist such as Buraka Som Sistema, Scratch Pervert, Sub Focus, Drop the Lime, and Caspa. He has alongside also prodiced his own songs and remixes for artists from the likes of A-Track, Kid Sister and Adele. His tracks titled Songs and Somebody to Love, which were both released in early 2012. He is considered to be an influential figure in the dubstep genre in the capacity of both artist and founder of many important labels such as Sub Soldiers, Dub Police and Storming Productions. Rusko, born in Leeds in Wet Yorkshire region of England in January 1985, is from a family of musical affluence.  He earned a degree in Music Production from Leads College of Music, and joined the world of Dubstep, a genre that he found particularly intriguing. He did so by performing at Sub Dub events ha.ppening in Leeds at the time, which are closely linked to what is considered to be their Northern counterpart events known as Digital Mystikz (DMZ). Both of these events are held at the well-established West Indian Centre. Rusko relocated to London so he could work with the prestigious record labels Stingray Records and Sub Soldiers, and it was there that he came across his present associated act, Caspa.
 
Rusko debuted as a producer in 2006, with the track SNES Dub on Dub Police. The following year he released the EP Babylon, Vol 1 alongside other artists such as Fabriclive 37 and Caspa. He moved away from the darker, more morbid side of the genre and introduced a rather high tempo, more upbeat tune to the dubstep front, which won a large following within the genre’s community as well as outside it. His most successful tune titled Cockney Thug made its way into the set of many DJs and song mixings including those of Santagold, M.I.A, Switch and Pete Tong.
 
Rusko worked alongside Grammy Award nominee M.I.A on her third studio offering Maya.  M.I.A chose to have Rusko on her new album because she was looking to create something more innovative and high-standard as opposed to the more mainstream sub-standards sounds being churned out. Rusko played the piano and guitar on this album and described the madness with which the two worked in the studio for sessions lasting thirty hours. The songs involving Rusko’s contributions are Steppin Up, XXXo, Teqkilla, Story to be Told, and Space. The song XXXO peaked among the top Forty hits in the UK, Spain and Belgium, while Teqkilla appeared on Canadian Hot 100 while still on released on digital downloads. The former was also named the second best track of the year in the list by 2010’s NME.
 
In 2010, Rusko released his own album called O.M.G, which was available in the UK and the US in early May with the first two singles being Hold On and Woo Boost. Released with record label Mad Decent, the album received a rating of above six points from Pitchfork Media, while NME awarded it five points. The album featured Rod Azlan, Amber Coffman, Crookers, Ben Westbeech and Redlight. In 2012, he released his second studio offering called Songs with the same label. Rusko has also worked with big acts such as T.I and Rihanna, while he is also known to have produced some material for pop princess Britney Spears. Some of his most loved remixed include Remedy, Kid Sister, Kelis, The Temper Trap, Little Boots and Skunk Anansie.
