Shinedown is a hard rock band created in 2002 with founding members comprising of Brent Smith on vocals, Barry Kerch on drums, Jasin Todd on guitar and Brad Stewart on bass. The band’s lineup experienced changes quite a few times, currently consisting of Kerch and Smith alongside Zach Myers on guitar and Eric Bass on Piano and bass. Since the very beginning, the band has released four studio offerings namely, The Sound of Madness, Us and Them, Leave and Whisper and Amaryllis, along with fourteen singles. The group has already sold over ten million copies all over the world. The first album by Shinedown titled Leave a Whisper, was released in July 2003, featuring hits such as Burning Bright, Fly from the Inside, a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover of Simple Man, and the super emotional ‘45’. The acoustic version of the Simple Man cover propelled the small status band to nation-wide stardom, prompting tributes to Dimebag Darrell in live performances. Only a few months later, the band released a concert DVD of their studio offering called Live from the Inside that also included a brief documentary on the band. This DVD contained the groups’ last live performance of their Leave a Whisper tour.
In 2005, Shinedown returned to the studio to create its next album, which was released in October that year and was titled Us and Them. The album made three singles including Heroes, I Dare You and Save Me, with the latter as their lead single which climbed up to the number one spot on Active Rock Charts and stayed on top for as many as twelve weeks. The two former singles received similar reception with I Dare You being famously performed by Chris Daughtry on American Idol, while it was also made a secondary theme track for Wrestlemania 22, the pay-per-view session of the WWE flagship. This album, which has thirteen versions, attained the status of certified gold by 2006. After the album’s release, the group participated in several combined tours the SnoCore Tour alongside other rock acts including Halestorm, Flyleaf, and Seether, which was followed by the Equinox Tour with Trapt. The group then went on to perform overseas at London Astoria in support of Alter Bridge, which was followed by their North America tour in which they opened shows for Rob Zombie and Godsmack.
In December 2006, Shinedown performed at Knoxville, at the well-known Tennessee Theatre where they were filmed for yet another DVD. A year later the band announced returning to the studio for their third album titled The Sound of Madness, which was released in June 2008. Their first single called Devour marked their second number one on Active Rock Charts, while their second single Second Chance went on to become the group’s most successful song becoming their first ever track to enter Billboard Hot 100 in its top ten. This track that reached the seventh place is known to be double platinum. The album generally, stayed on Billboard 200 for a continuous period of a hundred and twenty weeks and produced five singles including The Crow & The Butterfly, Beautiful Day and If You Only Knew, while several of its scores were played in movies with the song Her Name is Alice for Alice in Wonderland, and Diamond Eyes for The expendables.
In 2009, Shinedown was nominated for an American Music Award in the category of Alternative Rock for their smash hit radio favorite Second Chance. The group released its first single titled Bully from its fourth album Amaryllis. They have released two live albums so far with Live from the Inside released in 2005 and Somewhere in the Stratosphere in 2011.
