Steve Aoki is an electro house artist and producer who founded his own record label called Dim Mak Records. Steve Aoki had been involved in producing music since college when he produced some ‘do-it-yourself’ records while he also arranged underground concerts in his Biko room while still living at Isla Vista, in Santa Barbra Student Housing Cooperative. In the capacity of a venue for musical performances the apartment came to be called The Pickle Patch. By the time he was twenty, Aoki had made his own record label called Dim Mak which he named after his favorite hero, Bruce Lee. He has played in several bands such as This Machine Kills, and released an album through Ebullition Records titled The Fire Next Time and Esperanza.
Steve Aoki’s record label has released works by other musicians such as Felix Cartal, The Bloody Beetroots, Mustard Pimp, MSTRKRFT, Mystery Jets, Whitney, Klaxons, and Scanners. He is a well-known DJ and club promoter as well and has collaborated with Blake Miller, from the band called Moving Units, to create remixes. The two work under the title of Weird Science. Aoki has spent much time in the studio collaborating with fellow producers and released singles with the likes of Tiesto, Sidney Samson, Tai, Laidback Luke, Afrojack, Armand Van Helden from Duck Sauce and The Bloody Beetroots. Steve Aoki remixed the song When The Wind Blows which has been featured on the 2008 UK version of the album by All-American Rejects titled When The World Comes Down. His remix of Drake’s track Forever, which was released in November 2009, features Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Eminem and Drake. The song entered the Hype Machine chart just a month after its release and peaked on top numbers. Aoki has toured rigorously through which he has gained recognition from universities and colleges. He has played on average, at least two hundred and fifty shows a year, and yet again undertook another touring venture on the bus. In this tour he went to fifty-five different cities in the USA and Canada on sixty dates in spring 2012.
Steve Aoki has won several awards beginning with 2007 when he won Best DJ of the Year category from Paper Magazine; he then won an Ibiza Award for Best Set of the Season, following which he won the category of Best Party Rocker DJ from BPM Magazine. On 2008, he won Big Mix Album of the Year category from Billboard Awards.
