The Great Chicago Fire of late nineteenth century became the inspiration for naming the club as Chicago Fire
. They were included in Major Soccer League in their third season and the team also competes in other leagues of Canada and United States. The club is multicultural in its recruitment policy and signed initially three international players from Poland and one from Czech Republic.
In the beginning Soldier Field was used for most games of Chicago Fire
. But as of 2006 the team plays majority of its games at the recently built Toyota Park Stadium, which also serves as the home stadium for the club. The entire construction cost of the venue is over a hundred million dollars and can seat around 28000 people for different events.
The club’s uniform is a combination of red and white which are also its official colors. But sky blue, black and navy blue have also been used as alternate colors on many occasions. A bold letter ‘C’ on the players’ shirts is used as the logo of the Chicago Fire
has shown consistent good performances in the U.S. Open Cup by winning the title more than once in 2000, 2003 and 2006. Some really famous players have been associated with the team including Peter Nowak, Jerzy Podbrozny, Roman Kosecki, Lubos Kubik, Frank Klopas, Chris Armas, Jorge Campos and Diego Gutierrez . The club has intensified the interest of locals in sports and has also earned a strong and enthusiastic fan base for itself. These fans are present at all their games, supporting and cheering them to victory.
In 2003, Chicago Fire
started their exclusive Hall of Fame, titled as Ring of Fire with the objective of honoring members of the team for their committed dedication and support. Peter Nowak became the first inductee for his instrumental role in leading the team to its initial championship titles. Frank Klopas, Lubos Kubik, Bob Bradley and Chris Armas also became the honorary members of ‘Ring of Fire’ in the following years. The names of these members are displayed on a huge banner on the east side of their home ground.
Unfortunately, Chicago Fire
has not won any major title since 2006 and the team has faced immense pressure from their fans and administration to win another championship. The team has undergone many changes including management shift, various players joining and leaving the club along with change of coaches as well. At present Frank Klopas serves as the team’s coach. He has been an important part of the team since its formation and fans are expecting that under his guidance the club will be able to win league titles once again.
