American Football is more commonly known to be played in huge football fields, but quite recently, a much more contained version of it has made its way in form of Arena Football League or AFL. Much like the kind of football that is played in the stadiums, Arena Football matchups also contain and offer adrenaline filled action coupled with nail biting thrill. The history of arena football goes back to 1987 when it was played for the very first time. From that day till today, Arena football has evolved into something a lot bigger than its name itself. Currently the number of teams in the league amount to fourteen, all of which are American based franchises. And those fourteen franchises also include Cleveland based team called the Cleveland Gladiators.

The team saw its formation almost a decade after the formation of the team, and during the course of its existence, the franchise has evolved from being ‘newly-formed franchise’ to Cleveland Gladiators. Calling Quicken Loans Arena its home ground, Gladiators enjoy widespread fan support in its city of operations and the surrounding regions of it as well. During the 20-week long regular season of the Arena Football League, Gladiators attract a massive number of its fans to the arena in its support. Although the team plays its home games in Cleveland now, but that isn’t where the team was formed originally. In 1997 the team was actually formed by the name of New Jersey Devils and gave the fans of football in New Jersey, something to cheer about during AFL season. However the then-ownership of the team wasn’t quite happy with the financial returns of the team, hence they decided to sell it off to Jim Ferraro. Upon his acquisition, Ferraro renamed the team to New Jersey Gladiators; but even after all that change in ownership, Jersey fans still had a team nonetheless.

This changed, however, when the team was officially relocated to Las Vegas. After the relocation, even though the team managed to keep its last name ‘Gladiators’, but its first name was changed to Las Vegas. The team existed with that name up till 2007, after which Cleveland became its new base of operations, and home sweet home. Amidst all its ups and downs, the team has taken home a total of two Division Championship and hopes of winning the league championship. The team will be bringing its hopes and fight back to the arena this season and try to claim the trophy that matters the most in the league.
