Representation of Western Michigan Univesrity, Western Michigan Broncos is NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision team. The team competes in mid American Conference playing men’s basketball, soccer, tennis, football and baseball while women’s cross-country, gymnastics, soccer, softball, basketball, golf, volleyball and track and field. The university offers several stadiums, arenas, field and tracks for these sports.
 
The athletic teams of Western Michigan Broncos were renowned as Hilltoppers till 1939 after which they changed their nickname to Broncos. The main rival of the university’s team is Central Michigan University.
 
Western Michigan Bronco’s men’s basketball team is Conference Tournament Champion of 2004 while they received Conference Regular Season championship in 1952, 1976, 1981, 1998 and 2004. Coached by Steve Hawkins, the team is famous for its speed, stamina and form and holds several individual records. Ben Handlogten holds the record of highest single game field goal percentage while Sean Wightman has second highest single-season three point field goal percentages.
 
The Baseball team has appeared six times in College World Series and has won 14 Mid-American Conference Championships. The men’s soccer team won Mid-American Conference tournament Championship in 2003 while Ice Hockey team has renowned players like Keith Jones who played for four years for the team.
 
Women’s Gymnastics team won Mid-American Conference Championship and a mid American Conference Tournament Championship in 2006.  The Broncos sprint medley team currently ranks at top in National Collegiate Athletic Association. The volleyball team has won seven Mid American Conference Championships and four Mid American Conference Tournaments.
 
Western Michigan is also home to an internationally competitive synchronized skating team, taking part and winning awards at competitions all around the world. Bronco’s synchronized skating program competes internationally as well as on collegiate level all around the United States. The snowboard team won United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association Championship in 2005 while they won United States Figure Skating Association National Championship in Synchronized Skating in 2004.
 
Western Michigan Broncos are renowned for their sportsmanship and skills, the qualities which have garnered them fame and recognition and several awards. At the end of 2010-2011 season, the Broncos were honored with the Cartwright Award given to one mid-American Conference program each season on the basis of excellence in academics, citizenship and athletics. The University also won the Jacob Trophy for most successful women’s program and came second fro Reese Trophy for most successful men’s program.
