for the 1970 documentary film Let It Be
The band’s members, each of whom went on to be regarded as a legend in his own right, consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Heavily influenced by the likes of Elvis Presley as well as numerous skiffle
and rock and roll artists from the 1950s, the band’s music has explored such diverse and dynamic genres as pop, punk, psychedelic rock, blues and many others.
The idea for Love
began after a conversation between George Harrison and Guy Laliberté, the co-founder and CEO
of Cirque Du Soleil. Harrison envisioned an ambitious theatrical production that could provide audiences "a way of re-living the whole Beatles musical lifespan in a very condensed period." Upon hearing this, Laliberté became interested and soon the two of them began work on the show, which included years of negotiations between the surviving members of the Beatles, the representatives of their estates and a few other parties.
The show premiered at a purpose-built theatre at the MGM Mirage in Las Vegas in June 2006. Love’s concept creators were Dominic Champagne and Gilles Ste-Croix, while its director was Chantal Tremblay. The production employs various multimedia elements – such as high-definition projectors and translucent screens – and combines them with traditional acrobatic performance art. The conceptual plot of the show is loosely based around the life-story of the Beatles themselves, and traces their roots from each of the band member’s early years to the rise of the band and its break-up. The show’s accompanying album has won two Grammy Awards and features remixes as well as reworked editions of famous Beatles
