In 1990, the idea to work on a new kind of show Mystere started floating around. However, it was dropped by the casino executives due to the financial risk involved. The Las Vegas audience was familiar with a typical form of theatre most notably "Folies Bergere", therefore introducing a new theme and culture to the casino was seen as a major financial threat by the producers. The typical circus shows drew their themes from European culture that included stylized feather boas and scarves. However, the idea behind Mystere was to introduce a new and innovative theme based on Roman and Greek mythology. A team of highly talented individuals eventually started to work on the new concept. The team comprised of choreographer "Debra Brown", set designer "Michel Crete", costume designer "Dominique Lemieux", composer "Rene Dupere" and director "Franco Dragone". The idea behind Mystere finally turned into reality, when the first world premiere of Mystere was held in 1993. The show was an instant hit amongst the audience, garnering rave reviews for its fresh and bold visuals. Three years later, the show became a resident at the Treasure Island with its own theatre instead of circus tents.
