She is forced to work at a sex shop and the American boy Chris is a guard at the US embassy in Saigon. They both fall in love but unfortunately the Viet Cong closing retreats Chris. Chris returns to his homeland and gets married to an American girl Ellen, leaving behind pregnant Kim. After a few years, Chris returns to Saigon to search for his lost love. Kim is determined to send her three year old son Tam to US with Chris.
Ever since the musical’s debut, it has won several awards and nominations. In 1989, right after its premiere, the musical was nominated for the ‘Best New Musical’. It ended up winning two awards in the categories of ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’. In 1991, after its Broadway premiere, the musical won three Tony Awards, four Drama Desk and a Theatre World Award. As of 2011, Miss Saigon remains the ‘11th Longest Running Musical’ in Broadway history. It has been produced and seen in various countries including UK, Canada, USA, Brazil, Norway and various other places.
