Radio City Christmas Spectacular Tickets
An annual play held every year at New York City's Radio City Music Hall is called The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Hosting more than a million visitors a year, the show has over 140 performers, lavish costumes and an original musical score, presenting a combination of special effects, music and dance. Dancing is done by the dance group known as the ?Rockettes?. Running for six weeks from November 9 to December 30 Radio City Christmas Spectacular has become an annual tradition in New York at Christmas time. Radio City Christmas Spectacular began in 1933 as a show between movie screenings with only 2 acts: The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers and the living Nativity. Both were developed and choreographed by the Rockettes' founder Russell Markeit. Till the 1979 Christmas show expanded to ninety minutes with additional acts. Now, with modern machinery and technology Radio City Christmas Spectacular has many special effects and an opening 3-D movie drawing vast numbers of people into the Music Hall around the time of Christmas.
3-D glasses are given to the patrons and a 3-D movie opens the Christmas Spectacular and Santa can be seen flying to New York City from the North Pole in his magic sleigh. He flies around New York City's landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building gradually coming towardsthe Radio City Music Hall. Arrival of Santa starts the actual play Radio City Christmas Spectacular and he introduces the Rockettes to the audience who performs their opening number ?I see Christmas everywhere?. After this, a scene from The Nutcracker called ?every little girl's dream? is acted out where a little girl dreams about opening her presents on Christmas Day and dances with the six-foot tall toy bears and rabbits that she finds in the unwrapped boxes.
One of the original acts from the play, ?The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers?, is up next with the toy soldier costumes worn in the act are the same design as the original 1933 performance, however each costume is made for the individual dancer. Next, Santa reads a letter from a little girl who wants to know how Santa can deliver so many presents all over the world in one night and he explains b saying that he is helped by a legion of Santa Clauses helping him with his rounds. Fifty Santa Clauses come up on to the stage after this and dance.
?Dance of the Snowflakes? celebrating the wonders and beauties of a snowy New York Christmas season happens next with meteorologists predicting a Christmas with out snow. The performers of Radio City Christmas Spectacular now sing about the New York holiday season and shopping along Fifth Avenue using a Fifth Avenue store window recreated for the show, dancing snow flakes and live ice skaters. Santa's toy delivery operation and his workshop are the setting of next two acts complete with Mrs. Claus and all of Santa's elves using mobile phones and fax machines. But Santa wants an old fashioned letter any day.
Another original act, ?Living Nativity?, makes up the final act and special effects are used to dramatize the birth of Christ. Voiceover narration describes his life and the effect that he has had on history. The act is also called ?One Solitary Life?. A new dance number, new costumes and new visual effects were added in the 2006 show and The Radio City music hall Christmas Spectacular will celebrate its 75th year in 2007.
